How BookShare Works
From listing a book to getting it back — the full rental journey
For Book Owners
- Upload your book with its details, condition, a monthly lending price, and the maximum number of months you're willing to rent it out for.
- An admin reviews and approves the listing before it goes live to readers.
- When a reader sends a rental request, you can approve or reject it. Approving lets the reader confirm they've received the book, which starts the rental clock.
- Your share of the rental price (75%, after platform commission) is credited once an admin releases the payout for that rental.
- When the reader is done, they send a return request; confirming it closes out the rental and restores the book to your available copies.
For Readers
- Browse or search for a book, check its lending price (shown per month) and the owner's maximum rental duration.
- Send a rental request and choose how many months you'd like to borrow it for.
- Once the owner approves, confirm you've received the book — this deducts the rental price (lending price × months) from your wallet balance and starts your due date.
- Read, then request a return when you're done. If the owner doesn't confirm receipt of the return, or the book is never delivered in the first place, you can raise a dispute for an admin to review.
- Rate the book and the owner once your rental is complete.
Wallet & Payments
All payments run through your in-app wallet, topped up via our secure payment gateway. A small minimum balance is required to keep requesting or receiving books — see our Payment Info page for details.
Disputes
If a rental doesn't go as expected — a book never arrives, or isn't returned — either side can raise an issue directly on the order. Our team reviews every dispute and mediates a resolution; see our Refund & Dispute Policy for how that works.
